Hey everyone, closing up on the last week for our presentations and today is the last day to do them. We have had alot of fun doing our analysis of laptops versus desktops and we hope that our 2 man group has enough evidence and data that we are not outmatched by the other groups. Hey everyone,

So the school year is finally over but I’m glad I ended it with this class because the project was defintely a feat that I am proud to have accomplished with my team. I want to say that it’s been a pleasure hearing those who voice their opinions, learning the different perspectives Tomlinson taught us, and bickering/laughing with my groupmates. So basically we had to change our project from tags research (career, lifestyle, hobbies etc.) to module research (transportation, home energy, foods, goods, and services) because it was too impractical and time consuming for long term maintanence. That is, if they are to actually implement our advice into the website, which was our ultimate goal. As heart breaking as it was to start over again so late in the game, it was worth it to get a more SUSTAINABLE product in the end =). It was fun. It was sometimes excruciating pain. But most of all, it was memorable.

Take care everyone and enjoy our vacation!!!

After a good 9 or 10 weeks of hard work, our group has finally finished the project. Overall with the way we kept pace of our project at a maximum throughout the quarter really helped us achieve this endeavor.

In case you are wondering, this web-address is a creative name we came up with from the words: Digital, Media, and Green…all that relate to our project’s purpose!

Again, as per the “about DigMeGreen” link on our website, here was the goal:

The goal of the website is to reach out to adolescents (12-16 year-olds mainly) and educate them in a creative way about the impacts of e-waste and print media as well as offer them some simple methods to adopt in order to address these issues. According to KidsGrowth.com, a site moderated by the Medical Advisory Board, “A Normal
Attention Span is 3 to 5 minutes per year of a child’s age” (KidsGrowth). Thus the information on this website is compact, and much of the learning comes from the comics. In effect, the target audience viewing the website does not get bored, actually finds the site interesting and learns the intended material. Since adolescents are near the future in terms how our environment is influenced, it is important to pass on knowledge of the impacts of e-waste, print media, and especially their alternatives/solutions to them at a young age. This enables them to make “green” decisions throughout their life and assist in the collective effort to make our shared environment a better one.

Our group did not have enough time to actually go in detail about our ‘very different’ project topics we had.

We were trying to say because of the the “electromagnetic radiation” coming from cellphones, wireless, radio, etc… many things are affected by it, for example, bees. Like a research shows, 1/2 of the bee colonies the researchers examined, they failed and died. Also, while trying to mine for coltan to use for our techy gadgets (cellphones), the gorillas are being harmed and so are the whales.

Overall, it was an interesting researches.

We finally finished the project.

This is our powerpoint: ICS Final Powerpoint. We tried to make the powerpoint as short as possible, so that the audience don’t get tired of it.

We have a website: Envirotronic Website and a Youtube video: Water Conversion Video.

The Envirotornic Website has the water conversion video, powerpoints, etc.

We decided to make both the website and video because in that way, it helps people to understand better about our topic, water wastage.

Our website is about recycling, and we tried to focus on plastic recycling. We decided that the best way to research was to do field research as well as regular research. The field research gave us a clearer understanding of the recycling process and the consequences of recycling and not recycling.We were also able to obtain many great pictures that we used for our video and media gallery. Our regular research included doing an Mturk poll and the use of websites that focus on recycling. The Mturk results are in our experiment page and the links to the most useful websites are on our links page. The links page also has a section that allows the user to find the nearest recycling center for the material they wish to recycle. One of the main features of the website is the calculator. By inputing the number of bottles you use in a day and how many times you recycle in a week, the calculator figures out how much you are helping the environment by reducing landfill space occupancy, barrels of oil saved, and heat energy saved. The calculator puts a positive spin to the project by giving results that say how much you can help the environment vs. how much hurt it, thus we hope to encourage more people to recycle.
